The Teddy Bear Project

Christmas is upon us! And so...

'The Teddy Bear Project' is back!
Does your little one have a favourite teddy bear or toy? Well, I am offering to create their portrait!*

It was an idea I had last Christmas for my niece and she loved it! I recreated her "Doudou" as a cartoon character and she is proud to have him framed on the wall of her bedroom. It is also a nice keep-sake for the parents as teddy bears can become a very important part of the family!

How does it work?
To create a personalized Teddy Bear character portrait - simply send a photo of teddy (where I can see as much detail as possible) and tell me if you have any specific 'look' you would like - ie referencing a particular cartoon or illustrative style (eg. Babar, Sponge-bob, etc.!)
Portraits supplied as: Digital file via email for you to print at home.
Printed versions on request.

To Kill a Mockingbird (Lila's Piece)

This is the tree from my To Kill a Mockingbird series. I exhibited the original drawing at the Tinderbox Storytelling exhibition, October 09. This is the adapted version, which is a commission for a greeting card.

Figure drawing in Montpellier October 2016

More drawings from figure drawing session here in Montpellier. I'm trying to let go of bad drawing habits and relax enough during each pose to express something emotional, rather than just portraying the body in front of me. My worst habit comes up during the longer poses. I sometimes aim to create a finished piece instead of letting go and just allowing something to happen. As a result, they tend to be over-worked and lack soul. The shorter poses tend to be much more interesting. 20 minute conté on black card 20 minute conté crayon on paper I think this one was 10 minutes. This is one of my favourites from the session as it conveys vulnerability. Another 10 minute pose, I rather like this one.  5 minute charcoal on paper. 5 minute charcoal on paper Charcoal on paper 2 minute charcoal. 2 minute charcoal. I like the strong line on her back. Makes the figure pop off the page a bit.

Initial Drawings For Exhibition Piece

I've been referencing an old nature book with technical illustrations of birds.
